  • Translated from the French of P. Huguet, Marist, by a Sister of Mercy.

Printed with Imprimatur in 1884. 155 page book.

Pious souls, deeply afflicted by the outrages that the Sacred Heart of Jesus receives from careless and impious Christians, consecrate to It, in the spirit of reparation, the first Friday of each month. Is it possible, O faithful souls who read these touching words proceeding from the Heart of your loving Saviour, that you can remain insensible to the invitation that He extends to you to repair the outrages heaped upon His love ? Will you have less zeal for Jesus Christ than for an earthly friend or for a loving father—you who can not bear to see a loved one suffer the least ill-treatment without expressing your grief and endeavoring to console him by your affectionate tenderness?

  • Traits of the Sacred Heart
by Rev. Francis P. Donnelly, S.J.

The chapters in this book had their origin in a desire to find out the meaning and use of the word “heart” in the New Testament and to apply that revealed teaching to the Sacred Heart. May the truths here collected from the Word of God and the teachings of His Church increase in the hearts of the faithful the knowledge and love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

  • From the Italian of Father Cajetan Mary daBergamo
    Translated by Herbert Cardinal Vaughan

These “Thoughts and Sentiments on Humility” were written by Cardinal Vaughan during the last months of his life.

This treatise is sort of a last will and testament of Cardinal Vaughan, bequeathed to those with whom he was most intimately associated in work for the good of souls. It is a legacy from one who made Humility a life-long study, and who had more opportunities than most of us of making tremendous strides in it, through the humilities which he welcomed as most precious opportunities offered him by God for the salvation and sanctification of His soul.

  •     This Book, containing four separate parts, is one of those works which possess a merit of its own. It is a Book of rare merit, and worthy of keeping company with the immortal “Following of Christ,” of the venerable a Kempis. This work it resembles in teaching the highest practical truths, but it differs from the same, in that it is more regular in plan; more complete, actual, definite.

The aim of the First Book is, to teach you how to free the heart, first, from the stains of sin, afterwards from the love of a corrupt world, and lastly, from the inordinate affection for self.

The object of the Second Book is, to teach us - after we have become disengaged from our evil and inordinate affections, how we should exert ourselves, that, by the practice of virtue, we may be enabled to make our election sure.

Book Three contains admonitions useful to imitate the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in His life of suffering.

Book Four contains admonitions helpful toward uniting ones self with the Heart of Jesus in bliss.

By The Very Rev. Alexis M. Lepicier O.S.M.

In this book The Sacred Heart suggests to our minds infinite love  on the part of  Our Divine Redeemer. We learn it was his love which urged Him to give Himself entirely to us in His Passion and death. It reminds us that the love Jesus has is ordained to inspire our hearts with the flame of reciprocal love.

Pious Exercises Which May Lead Towards Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

    From the Preface:
The one aim of this little book is to furnish, for each day of the Month of June, some pious exercises which may lead towards devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. If, therefore, its necessary brevity has not proved too great an obstacle to clearness, the hope is cherished that every one who reads will be able to understand what is herein laid down.

His Holiness, Pope Pius XI, by a decree of the Sacred Penitentiary, March 1, 1933, granted to all the faithful who, during the month of June, publicly assisted at the exercises in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus:
An indulgence of ten years, once a day.
A plenary indulgence, provided they have taken part in the same exercises at least ten times, and have gone to confession, received Holy Communion, and prayed for the intention of the Supreme Pontiff.

  • A Month of the Sacred Heart According to St. Gertrude.

Rev. Andre Prevot. Impr, 1911, 203 page book.

The intentions in publishing this modest work is to help souls; to help others to see and taste, with greater relish, how good is the Heart of Jesus. And to imprint on the hearts of our readers one of those words of Gertrude to which Our Lord has promised to attach an especial grace, and which, filling their souls with a sweet unction, may become a source of spiritual riches for life. This work is divided into thirty lectures, so that it may be used as a devotion for the Month of the Sacred Heart. We hope that under this form it will everywhere meet with a more ready acceptance, and may with God’s grace especially suit all the clients of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and all those souls who in the world, the cloister, or the sanctuary, devote themselves to the work of reparation.

  • A Collection of Letters, Maxims, and Practices of the Blessed Margaret Mary Alacoque.

    Edited by Eleanor C. Donnelly.

In linking together this chain of antique pearls drawn by sainted fingers from the casket of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it would seem to us that the chaplet were incomplete without some special mention of that pearl of great price, that blessed Margarita, for whose purchase the heavenly Merchant gave all that He had, to the end that He might possess it entirely and forever.
In the letters of a saint, in the written conceptions of a heart closely united to God, and weighing every Word in the balance of truth and purity of intention, we have assuredly the mirror of a just soul reflecting in its shining beauty the unbroken image and likeness of its Creator.
Moved by these considerations, and opining that the Infinite Wisdom, which never acts without a purpose, must have had some special design in inspiring and preserving the letters of the Blessed Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Compiler of this little work has seen fit to collect the principal part of those holy epistles within its pages, and to add thereto the maxims and practices of their saintly writer. May the perusal of her fervent words, may the imitation of her zealous practices inflame the heart of the reader with the same fire of divine love that glowed in the breast of the Blessed Margaret, and won for her from our divine Lord Himself the title of the beloved disciple of His Sacred Heart!

We purpose, by means of this book, to inculcate the proper spirit of the devotion to the Sacred Heart, to assist souls in cultivating the interior life in the midst of the distracting pursuits of the world, and to foster a fervent yet reasonable devotion - a love that is both affective and effective - not a mere sentimentality, but a robust and practical piety.
It is this that lives become self-forgetting, devoted, according to the Heart of Jesus, and, through, union with Him, are hidden in God.
