St. Dymphna has become popular for people in need to turn to when life becomes to trying. She is often invoked to help with many issues including depression, mental issues, anxiety, stress, and other disorders and fears.
Her mother, a devout Catholic, died when she was only 14 and her father, who was not religious, turned mad with grief, decided to marry Dymphna as a replacement. She fled her father to Belgium with servants and St. Gerebernus, a priest. She was tracked down, St. Gerebernus was killed, and St. Dymphna was killed by her own father for refusing to marry him.
For this she is the patron saint of mental illness, incest victims, as well as therapists, and the loss of parents.

Prayer in Honor of St. Dymphna O God, we beseech Thee through Thy servant, Blessed Dymphna, who didst seal with her blood the love she bore Thee, her Eternal Spouse, to grant relief to those in our midst who suffer from mental afflictions and nervous disorders. Through Christ, Our Lord.
