From the introduction, "While the Blessed Sacrament Book is adapted to serve as a book of devotions for the faithful in general, it is designed as a Vade Mecum for daily attendants at Mass, for frequent communicants, and above all for the members of our various Eucharistic associations while engaged in performing the Holy Hour or the Hour of Adoration."

Readers will find the book split into two parts with the first devoted to general daily prayers and the second devoted to prayers for the saints and prayers of indulgence. It is hoped that the “Reflections” contained in the first part of this little book will stimulate the pious reader to make frequent use of the prayers and devotions which are found in the second part for the solace of the suffering souls in Purgatory.

Among his many writings, Lasance offers up a small book of various devotions, prayers, and litanies for all occasions. Included in this book are footnotes which act as a follow up to previous passages to further emphasize specific phrases.

Along with illustrations, Lasance touches on certain prayer passages and indulges his readers on further reflections on their meanings. For example, from his Reflections on the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy Kingdom Come”, Lasance says, “Consider that in this the second petition of the “Our Father” we pray for the kingdom of God. Now, we find in Holy Writ that the kingdom of God is understood in three different ways. First, of the eternal kingdom of God. . .” With his teachings, Lasance brings traditional prayers into a new light.

This book endeavors, in the first part, by means of thirty-one readings and examples, to explain the doctrine of the Church on the Mass in a plain and interesting manner. The second or practical part offers a variety of devotions for Mass and for Holy Communion, so that the book may be more beneficial and useful to the masses. It discusses practical questions on the Mass from a dogmatic, moral, ascetic, historical, and liturgical point of view, as may be gleaned very readily from a cursory survey of the index. It was planned and compiled with a view to making it useful to inquiring Protestants, prospective converts, devout Catholics, and zealous religious. It aims to exhibit the jewels of the Mass to better advantage; to unfold its hidden treasures before the gaze of all classes; and to stimulate the faithful to a more earnest and constant endeavor to appropriate and apply to themselves its rich and abundant fruits for their temporal and eternal welfare.
