Flora Lucy Freeman with a preface by the Msgr Robert Hugh Benson.

The following pages embody a simple and deliberate attempt to draw attention to the treasures of the present. The past, for good or evil, has built it up; the future will develop it yet further and brings its consequences.
You need never regret the past remorsefully, so long as you have graces that lead to repentance; you need never again waste hours in daydreaming, nor even in despair and discouragement, when once by a little plain and steady thinking, you know your strength, with its limitations and possibilities. Here are gifts, both natural and supernatural. “Count your blessings.” See how the great men and women of God have risen by the use of such as these to sanctity.

240 page book, Impr 1916.

As a seminarian, I have found this book to be extremely useful in forming my own conscience, and have gleaned many a thought for reflections that I have given to my fellow brother seminarians. Although written about a century ago, the thoughts and reflections given by the author are perennial. They address a wide range of issues, with great clarity and common sense. There is even a section where Mrs Freeman deals with using prudence when it comes to social justice; by idolizing it, one might add to the problem rather that helping solve the issue. I have enjoyed this masterful work, and with an introduction by the great Msgr Hugh Benson, this book is a spiritual treasury of thoughts and meditations that will help anyone on their journey towards our eternal country.
