St. Justin, Martyr

Not rated yet

“This man was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent of spirit, spoke and taught diligently the things that are of Jesus.”
- Luke, of Apollo (Acts xviii. 25).

A book for the times, appealing to piety through faith, rather than to faith through piety, as the Apologies of St. Justin Martyr himself appealed to the religious reason rather than to the religious sentiment of his contemporaries.

From the Preface:
It is possible that while nowadays the enemies of religion refuse to take anything for granted, and demand mathematical proof for every proposition, those who have the privilege of having been born within the Church err on the side, and are too well-disposed indolently to reap the advantages of what those who have gone before them have endured, and to imagine that nothing is left for them but to rest on the laurels won by the apologists, confessors, and martyrs of old.

104 page book, originally published by Benziger Brothers, Impr 1910.
