  • A Series of Studies, a Collection of Tributes, an Account of Certain Movements Bearing On The Third Person of the Blessed Trinity by Rev. WM. F. Stadelman, C.S.Sp.

    Imprimatur, 1918. 388 page book. 100 illustrations.

Of this books twenty-five chapters, the first six deal with topics that bear on the objective glory of the Divine Spirit. The remaining nineteen chapters embrace subjects that bear on His formal extrinsic glory, and show in concrete how in times past souls devoted to Him have expressed their devotion. This is why we entitled our work “Glories of the Holy Ghost.”

  • By Sister M. Emmanuel

    Imprimatur, 1933.

For many there is a difficulty in obtaining the spiritual reading on the subject of the Holy Ghost. The aim, therefore, of the present work has been to gather from reliable sources, not perhaps accessible to all, what would be most helpful to souls in general. With this end in view, we have culled from the Garden of the Holy Ghost, the Lives of the Saints of the Church, many choice and varied blooms, which seem to us to set forth better than any discourse, the work and characteristics of the Holy Spirit.

It was to make Saints that the Holy Ghost was sent upon this earth, and it is the Saints who can best teach us by their own lives, what this Beneficent Friend and Comforter can and will do for us all if we but let Him.

  • From the Preface:

"...an opportunity opens for explaining hidden doctrines, of which the value to the Catholic in the development of his inner life is considerable. It is to further this development that these meditations have been drawn up, since hardly anything can render us more sensible of our worth and Christian dignity than does the teaching of Our Lord on the indwelling of the Spirit of God."

“The wonderful beauty of the Church’s teaching on the abiding presence of the Holy Ghost, while it deepens our acquaintance with His mysterious governance of the universe and discovers to use the hidden beauties of our soul's life, should bring its measure of comfort, for whatever makes us conscious of the intimacy of God’s dealing with us lessens life’s greatest trouble, its loneliness.”

We ought to pray to and invoke the Holy Spirit, for each one of us greatly needs His protection and His help.  The more a man is deficient in wisdom, weak in strength, borne down with trouble, prone to sin, so ought he the more to fly to Him who is the never-ceasing fount of light, strength, consolation, and holiness.

This book covers  a subject that is seldom found in Catholic books, at least to this extent.

  • The arrangement of these beautiful prayers and reflections on the Holy Ghost is wrought by the head and the hand of a priest of long experience in the spiritual life; and the reader will be pleased to have in his possession another little volume, though this time a compilation, from the pen of Father Dooley. In his own right, and in his privilege as a religious of the Society of the Divine Word, which has given to the world authors as well as missioners, Father Dooley has already received well-deserved recognition. May this new little volume be accorded a similar welcome.

  • By Rev. Frederick T. Hoeger, C.Ss.P.

This work not only supplies the faithful with a number of very beautiful prayers to the Holy Ghost, it also brings to their notice and stresses a very important dogmatic truth. The prayers reveal the universal activity of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian. We are wise to turn to the Holy Ghost in all issues of life, temporal as well as spiritual. Our recourse to Him should not be occasional and particular it should be continual and in regard of all necessities. Father Hoeger in this valuable book of prayers has shown the Christian how to exercise this universal appeal to the Holy Spirit, by providing a prayer for almost every eventuality.

  • By Cardinal Henry Edward Manning

    Except from the dedication:
“My belief is that these topics have a special fitness in the nineteenth century. They are the direct antidote both of the heretical spirit which is abroad, and of the unspiritual and worldly mind of so many Christians. The presence of the Holy Ghost in the Church is the source of its infallibility; the presence of the Holy Ghost in the soul is the source of its sanctification. These two operations of the same Spirit are in perfect harmony. The test of the spiritual man is his conformity to the mind of the Church.

  • By Rev. Francis J. Connell, C.Ss.R., S.T.D.

    This pamphlet has 4 chapters:
The Sacrament of Spiritual Maturity, The Liturgy of Confirmation, The Sacrament of the Holy Ghost, Confirmation and Catholic Action; each chapter is followed by Questions to test if the lessons in that chapter have been learned.

From Chapter 4: "We have entitled this pamphlet The Power of the Holy Ghost, for that is the expression Christ Himself applied to the effect of the coming of the Holy Ghost on His Apostles (Acts i. 8), and it is the same Holy Spirit that Catholics receive in Confirmation to give them supernatural power in the form of light and strength. May all who read this pamphlet be inspired with a greater reverence for this sacrament".

  • The Temporal Mission of the Holy Ghost by Henry Edward Manning. Impr., 274 page book. From Manning’s introduction he writes, “When I began to consider the nature and relations of Reason and Revelation, I found myself compelled to consider the Author and Giver of both, and the relations in which He stands to them, and they to Him. ... I found myself writing on the relations of the Divine Intelligence to the human; but as these intelligent and vital powers are personal, I was led into that which seems to me [...] to comprehend the whole question of Divine Faith, the temporal mission of the Holy Ghost, and the relations of the Spirit of Truth to the Church, to the human reason, to the Scriptures, and to the dogma of Faith.” Manning takes on a rather challenging feat in (perhaps multiple) attempts to truly understand the Holy Ghost and its mission within the Church, to “show the relation of the Holy Spirit to the Church or Mystical Body of Jesus Christ”.
