The St. Benedict medal can be worn on a chain around the neck, attached to one's rosary, kept in one's pocket or purse, or placed in one's car or home, it is often put into the foundations of houses and buildings, on the walls of barns and sheds, or in one's place of business.

On a pedestal to the right of St. Benedict is the poisoned cup, shattered when he made the sign of the cross over it. To the left is a raven about to carry away a loaf of poisoned bread that a jealous enemy had sent.

The St. Benedict medal is a very powerful medal formally approved by Pope Benedict XIV in 1741, and the Jubilee medal was struck in 1880, in remembrance of St. Benedict’s birth. It is effective in many ways: to impart protection to persons tempted, deluded, or tormented by evil spirits; to obtain the conversion of sinners into the Catholic Church, especially when they are in danger of death; to serve as an armor against temptation; to destroy the effects of poison; to afford protection against storms and lightning; to serve as an efficacious remedy for bodily afflictions and a means of protection against contagious diseases.
